Artist Statement

My work is a material experimentation in creating layers of symbolic meaning through coded, overt, and sometimes humorous imagery. I am working to uncover places of feeling, hope and change within my drawings. Medieval manuscript narrative structure and their not-so-perfect representation of the world informs so much of how I approach image and story-telling. These manuscripts contain imagery imbue levity in depictions of joy, work, life, and loss.

I use my work to tease out similar personal experiences that are shaped by family, politics, and everyday social interactions. My drawings combine imagery and pattern from history stories, animals, and personal narratives that speak to a variety of aspects of existence that can resonate, be it differently, from person to person. I hope my work causes people to consider the experience of being human, and the responsibilities that come with leading a life that is personal and public in a land governed by politics.
